GAVS Parents

Parents play an important role at GA Virtual School. We believe in working together as a team to support student progress. Course instructors send home biweekly course updates so parents know what is going on in class. When students are not being successful, parents are notified on a weekly basis by phone and email. In addition, you will have a Parent Account and you will also be able to check your child's progress.

 How to Enroll Your Child

You and your child will create an account.

  1. Start by clicking Registration in the top menu bar.

Your child will need a working email address and public school students will need their GTID number.

This GTID number will be assigned by GA Virtual School if your child is a private or home school student. Obtaining a GTID number may take up to 72 hours (during busy registration times this will usuall be only 24 hours).

  2. After accounts have been created, your child logs in and chooses to apply for a class. The school facilitator must approve any application (s).

To obtain further information or assistance with any of these steps please email information@gavirtualschool.org

 Communication

Effective communication is one of the most important keys to student success in a virtual classroom. For this reason, GAVS has a robust set of tools and policies to support communication between parents, schools, students, and teachers.

  • Biweekly course updates--course instructors email biweekly updates in the form of a newsletter so parents know what is going on in class.
  • Parent access to student progress--parents can use their logins to review their student's grades at any time with their parent accounts.
  • Email and phone communication--instructors are available by email and phone.  Parents are encouraged to email instructors with any questions or concerns.
  • Parent/Student Information Sesssions--at the beginning of each semester, parents and students are invited to an online information session where they can ask questions and get more information about the upcoming semester.
  • Notification of students failing to thrive--once weekly, all parents of students who have a grade that indicates they are in danger of failing recieve both an email and a phone call with this notification.

 Parent Accounts

All parents of new GAVS students must create a Parent Account before students may apply for class.  Parent accounts allow parents to see course announcements, access due dates, review grades, and monitor student progress in terms of course access and login times.

When you create your Parent Account, you will choose a password and the system will assign you a username. Please note this login information and keep it in a secure place.
At your first login, you will be asked to created security questions. Next you will see a page where you can click to view My Child's Classes. Until your child is fully enrolled and working in the class, there will not be information to view. If you have questions concerning a grade, please contact the instructor. If you experience difficulty with this account, please email parenthelp@gavirtualschool.org.

To login, parents will always come to the parent page of the website and input their username, password, and student username.
