Career Opportunities

If you are interested in learning more about becoming a Virtual Learning Instructor or about career opportunities with GAVS, please read the information below.

What is virtual learning instruction?
Virtual learning instruction involves teaching students course content via the Internet. As in a traditional, face-to-face classroom, teachers facilitate daily learning activities such as discussions, projects, labs, group work, and writing workshops. By providing feedback, remediation, and enrichment, virtual learning instructors guide students through GPS, content-approved courses.

Unlike a traditional classroom, teachers and students have access to course material 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Teachers and students must have a reliable Internet-connected computer to participate.

How do I apply for a teaching position?
Each teacher-applicant must hold a valid teaching certificate from Georgia and be highly qualified in his or her field. You can find more information on how to obtain a Georgia teaching certificate from the Professional Standards Commission.  Interested teachers can apply electronically by clicking on the following link: Teacher Application.

Interviews may be conducted based on experience, qualifications, recommendations, and current needs.

Not all applicants will be selected for training.

What teacher training is required?
Selected applicants will participate in a ten-week online teacher training course. This course will familiarize them with the pedagogy of virtual learning and teaching, as well as the technical aspects of the online platform. Applicants will also get hands-on experience when they are assigned a supervising teacher and participate in a student teaching experience. The training is conducted by experienced online instructors.

Teacher Training Courses begin in February and September of each year. Participants are chosen for training depending on current needs. If you are being considered for participation in the training course, you will be contacted for an interview.

Please note: Completion of the training course does not guarantee a teaching assignment. Teaching and other assignments are determined by program enrollment and needs  at the discretion of the GAVS administration. Assignments are communicated to teachers several weeks prior to the beginning of each semester.
