Julie Floyd, Program Coordinator for Student Support Services

Julie.jpgJulie Floyd graduated in 1991 from the University of Georgia with a Bachelors Degree in Secondary Social Science Education and in 1999 from Georgia State University with a Masters Degree in School Counseling.  She was employed by Gwinnett County Public Schools for 16 years. Julie was a classroom teacher for 7 years and a School Counselor for 4 years.  Since 2002, Julie also coordinated the Governor’s Honors Program for all high schools within Gwinnett County Public Schools from 2002-2006.  She has been employed by GAVS since the summer of 2006.

   
 Paula Galland, Support Specialist/Media Specialist

Paula Galland brings a wealth of educational experience to Georgia Virtual School. An early advocate of the benefits of technology in instruction, she has trained teachers in technology integration for the past 25 years using distance learning methods such as two-way television and online classes, as well as traditional face-to-face instruction.  She has taught at the middle grades, secondary and post secondary levels, and received undergraduate and graduate degrees from Vanderbilt University, University of Georgia and Georgia Southern University.

Ms. Galland’s accomplishments include serving on the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards development team for media specialist certification and the standards writing team for Information Power, AASL and AECT national standards for school media programs. Her proudest professional moments were being selected as the Georgia media specialist of the year and as Brunswick High School’s teacher of the year.

Paula loves being part of Georgia’s virtual school community as well as her real life community, St. Simons Island, where she and her husband were lucky enough to live while raising their two grown sons. Paula loves to travel and has visited six continents, so far. Her interesting work places have included a safari park in Kenya and a boat on the Yangtze Rive in China. Georgia Virtual School is as close as the Internet.

   
 Harriet Langford, Support Specialist/Counselor

Harriet LangfordWith a varied career in education, Harriet Langford brings to the Georgia Virtual School Guidance Department years of dedicated experience. First as a high school English teacher, then as a teacher in the Glynn County Gifted Program in elementary and middle school, and most recently as a  middle school counselor, Harriet brings to GAVS enthusiasm and patience in helping students define and achieve their educational goals. Having served the Georgia School Counselors Association as the Technology Chair, as well as Middle School Vice President, she brings a wide network of resources and knowledge to the position of Counselor at GAVS.

An English major at Furman University, Harriet also earned a Masters and an Educational Specialist degree in School Counseling from Georgia Southern University. An avid Mac user, Harriet has maintained her interest in technology and learning, teaching professional development classes for many years. In her spare time, Harriet enjoys recreational kayaking and camping, photography and birding.

   
 Johnice McRae, Support Specialist/Counselor

Johnice.jpgJohnice McRae is one of the newer members of the Georgia Virtual School Support Team.  Although Johnice is new to GAVS, she is not new to the field of Education.  With almost 15 years of educating the students in Georgia, she brings a wealth of knowledge.  Johnice has been a classroom teacher for 5 years, an instructional technology consultant for several years and a high school counselor for the past 8 years.  With her knowledge of technology, her teaching experience and her counseling background; combining all three, makes her a great fit for helping our Georgia Virtual School Community.

Mrs. McRae earned her bachelor’s degree from Hampton University, in Hampton, Virginia and then later, earned her master’s degree in School Counseling from The State University of West Georgia. In 2006, she completed her Educational Specialist in Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University.  In her spare time, Johnice loves reading, traveling and spending time with her husband and three children.
