Jay Heap, Program Coordinator for Curriculum Development

Jay Heap has been associated with the Georgia Virtual School since 2005 and currently serves as the Program Coordinator for Development. After completing his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education, Jay began his thirteen year career as a classroom teacher in the Floyd County School system. He earned a master’s degree in distance education and began teaching computer applications for GAVS. He has previously served as the business department chair, business content development specialist, and instructional leader for credit recovery.

When not spending his time working on GAVS projects, Jay enjoys working on the farm, reading, and playing Wii games. He resides in Gaylesville, AL with his wife, Amy.

   
 Jeff Giddens, Development Specialist

Jeff Giddens joined the Georgia Virtual School in 2009. He currently serves as a Development Specialist. After completing his Bachelor of Science degree in Middle Grades Education, Jeff taught middle school at Glynn Middle School in Brunswick, Georgia. After obtaining his Masters Degree and a decade of teaching, Jeff worked for an educational technology training center serving twelve different school systems. Jeff has presented at GAETC, NECC, and other related regional conferences and gatherings.

When not working on GAVS projects, Jeff enjoys gardening, cooking, pouring over the works of Dickens, and following developments in animation, cryptozoology, and emerging technologies. Jeff also contributes to a blog, Preclectic.com, and also maintains helpful bookmarks for educators with the popular social bookmarking service Delicious (del.icio.us/jgiddens).

 

   
 Alli Houston, Development Specialist

Alli HoustonAlli Houston joined the Georgia Virtual School in 2007 and currently serves as a Development Specialist. After completing her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Education, Alli began her career as a classroom teacher in the Fulton County School System. She earned a Master of Education Degree in English and began teaching and developing Literature and Composition courses for GAVS. In the past, Alli has served as team leader of curriculum development and was honored by having some of her ideas featured in a former graduate professor’s book.  Alli loves the creative aspects of development and thrives in finding solutions to problems with technology.

When not spending time working on GAVS projects, Alli enjoys reading, Starbucks, shopping, and spending time with her family. She resides in Johns Creek, GA with her husband Chip and son, Larkin.

   
 Twila Masaschi, Development Specialist

Twila Masaschi has been associated with the Georgia Virtual School since 2007 and currently serves as one of the Development Specialists. After completing her Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics Education, Twila taught for several years in Gwinnett County where she also served as subject leader and FCA club sponsor. After starting her family, she began teaching mathematics and developing with GAVS. She loves working with GaVS and is excited about all the future will hold for this incredible program.

When not spending her time working on GAVS projects, Twila enjoys drinking coffee, running, working out, being outside anywhere, and being with her family. She resides in Braselton, GA with her husband Chris and their kids Kaelie, Lane, and Lillie.

   
 Wendi Williams, Development Specialist

Wendi Williams has been associated with Georgia Virtual School since 2007 and currently serves as a development specialist. After completing her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management, Wendi added on a certificate for Middle Grades Education and taught middle grades math in the classroom for four years. She earned a master’s degree in curriculum, instruction and technology and joined Georgia Virtual School as a technology developer and math instructor.

When not spending time working on GAVS projects, Wendi enjoys reading, riding her bicycle and going to the beach. She resides in Brunswick, GA with her husband Noah, son Mason, and chocolate lab, Gabe.
